Tracking My Food: A Beginner’s Diet

For the past few weeks, on and off, I’ve been more or less tracking what I eat.  Every calories, snack and morsel – I write it down, trying to understand my habits better, trying to quantify my foodstuffs. The resulting list ain’t so pretty.

There are some obvious issues with my diet.

I eat out a lot.

Not really surprising, considering I work 12- odd hours a day, leaving me precious little time to cook (irony) and on the weekends I tend to hit the town with friends or family or just the lady.  Not only is this not ideal, healthwise, it can’t be ideal cost-wise.

Secondy, its clear I’m not eating enough in general.

Some days I’ll have coffee and a banana for the entire day.  A couple of days I forgot to eat.  Period.

I make up for it by eating too much later on, and usually that food is calorie laden and fast from a crummy burger joint.

If you are what you eat – I’m in trouble.

Thirdly,

while the occasional burger and fries on a rare occasion isn’t the end of the world, I eat fast food at least once every other week.

Sometimes once a week.

Working as a chef, I have free access to the pop machine.  Pop is sugar, sugar is bad, drinking that junk is terrible for your waist line and insulin levels.   That needs to be fixed

Those all needs to be fixed.

and lets start with that morning cup of Joe
